I dont't get a point since <link> tag points to apropriate forum, topic, message?

How does the link tag provide equivalent functionality to an RSS/atom feed that someone can use with an aggregator to monitor the forum's activities?

If you're talking about the link tag in e-mail notifications, perhaps the point would be the same point that got feeds into most other trac pages(like this ticket page). ie, it's also useful?

There is RSS notification from DiscussionPlugin in Trac's timeline. "Discussion changes" check box just must to be checked. If you mean separate RSS for every topic or forum that this is a different thing. Would you use separate RSSs rather than common one?

I think I would prefer use separate RSSs. This way I can pick and choose what I want to listen to using my aggregator and browser.

All right...

  • keywords set to worksforme.

You've got the separate RSS feed ability already. Just configure the boxes, refresh, and copy/paste the RSS link from the bottom of the page. Compare

http://projectfortress.sun.com/Projects/Playground/timeline?discussion=on&max=50&daysback=90&format=rss

and

http://projectfortress.sun.com/Projects/Playground/timeline?changeset=on&milestone=on&ticket=on&wiki=on&max=50&daysback=90&format=rss

I just now tested this with NetNewsWire. I've got my two feeds, they're clearly different.

  • summary changed from RSS feed to RFE: Separated RSS feed for each topic..

I'm fixing ticket summary. I think that it would be great if there will be possibility to add custom topics to one global RSS feed for whole discussion forum by using "Watch this topic by RSS." and "Watch this topic by e-mail." (See #725 comment 18) and separate RSS feed for each topic too.

  • status changed from assigned to closed.
  • resolution set to fixed.

Changeset r6310 implements separated RSS feeds using IContentConverter interface which is not really what I wanted but I hope it'll suffice.
