uhm, i agree. most all of the other trac plugins have setup.py scripts associated with them. there are absolutely no installation instructions provided with the BoilerPlatePlugin; i have no idea how to get it to work.

okay, i finally figured out how to get this plugin installed. all i had to do was copy the py file to /usr/share/trac/plugins. i don't think this is the best method to manage trac plugins, however. i have many more plugins installed and none of them dropped files into /usr/share/trac/plugins.

you should provide a setup.py with your distributions so that this plugin is more easily managed.

I apologize for the difficulty you had installing my plugin.

I, too, am a Java programmer. Writing this plugin and a few macros for Trac constitutes my biggest foray into Python. I considered producing a more proper distribution but that was effort I didn't feel is warranted considering how simple this plugin is (and more so for me than for someone fluent with Python). The Trac Plugins Wiki Page itself indicates that single-file plugins can be installed by dropping them into the plugins directory. I thought that was evident. I'll adjust my plugin wiki page with instructions to that effect.

Thanks for your feedback.

  • Resolution set to wontfix
  • Status changed from new to closed

Now that I review my plugin's wiki page, I see that it already contains installation instructions. I really don't know how I could make it any more clear.

If anyone with more Python experience would like to contribute a more formal plugin package, I'll accept it.
