Default Assignment on Task Creation

When creating a new task, the default for ticket assignment seems a little counter-intuitive. I think it should either follow component, or if none is specified, default to have the inputer as assigned. This way new tasks will automagically appear in the default TaskList report.

I'm not sure that I follow. It seems like you are saying that tickets with status New do not appear in the Task List view, but when I navigate to that view, New is selected by default in the filter.
