Why? The current behaviour is intentional.

Reason is less configuration. If somebody wants to describe acronym, he does not have to change table first.

Less configuration, less error-prone.

I think you'll need to describe what you want in more detail, your one line summary in the ticket doesn't make sense in the context of your last comment.

If you define acronym like this:

TCPTransfer Control Protocol

TCP becomes underlined and on hover it shows "Transfer Control Protocol"

it would be nice if this also becomes a link to Wiki page "TransferControlProtocol", so if someone wants to define it, he can without changing acronym table.

You might take a look at the AutoWikifyPlugin. With that plugin installed, the Acronym would become a link to a wiki page as soon as you create the wiki page.
