Also, not sure if this is practical, but it would be nice to avoid auto-completing with local resources when typing an InterTrac prefix, e.g. trac:#, t:wiki:.

Like #13067, this might have to be done with a special context function.

I assume we can not request suggestions for completing the actual remote resource via InterTrac somehow?

Not as far as I know, but trac:#11588 may be about that.

Another side topic, when trac:#11871 is added, do you think a suitable extension to this plugin would be to autocomplete usernames?

Yes, I also recently remembered that idea. I assume this would be quite easy to do, but haven't looked into it more yet.
