#27 closed enhancement (wontfix)

Account Manager needs extension for auto login

Reported by: charlie.clark@… Owned by: Matt Good
Priority: normal Component: AccountManagerPlugin
Severity: normal Keywords: auto-login registration
Cc: John Hampton, Gunnar Wagenknecht Trac Release: 0.8

Description

Account Manager currently hardwires users to the login page after creating their accounts. It would be nice to have them login automatically assuming the authentication method works with this, ie. my RelationalRole? stuff for Account Manager and Rede's proposed Authentication model.

Auto login and redirection should be defined in trac.ini with defaults probably being "off" and the "login page".

I'd suggest a different definition of nice here.

Imagine you create a new account and you've just given your details and password and hit "Create account". Now, isn't it nice to just challenge the new user to help him/her remember the password? Figure, you'll double-check here, that everything will still work next time he/she's coming back, not only the first time.

Another point of view would be to question, if this is really worth the hassle, given seemingly low interest in this feature (in fact this might be an enhancement, not a defect) and expected minimal possible gain. We speak of just one (the first) time/login less per registered user, right?
